Welcome to the Fall at HTE!  The end of the 1st 9 weeks is upon us.  Time has quickly passed as we fly high as hawks!!

I want to THANK YOU for your participation and support of HTE in so many areas – participation in SAC/PAC, volunteering during swimming, supporting our first spirit night, and being active in your child’s learning.  We wouldn’t be as successful without you…you are “HAWK-SOME!!”  Our next spirit night is Tuesday, October 17th at Chick-Fil-A from 5:00-8:00.  Hope to see you there!!

October is a busy month of learning for students as they continue to work on mastering the grade level standards.  Each teacher teaches the standards the best way they know how and then gives students opportunities to show what they know.  Then, grade level works together to analyze the student learning data and discuss how to get all students to achieve at high levels.  Not all students learn the same way and at the same speed so teachers collaborate on who needs a different strategy, who needs more time, and who needs both.

All students created a 1st 9 weeks reading goal.  Throughout the 9 weeks they have been updating their teacher on their progress.  They should begin to think about their reading goal for the 2nd 9 weeks.  Mine will be to read the Sunshine State Young Reader and Sunshine State Young Reader Jr. books.

With all of this hard work, we have fun built into the month as well.   On Tuesday, October 3rd, local law enforcement came to read to our Kindergarten classrooms, for Cookies & Cops.  This positive relationship is important to foster!!  We hope you’ll join us for our Fall Festival on October 20th from 4:30-7:30.  Our Book Fair will also be open during this time and the following week.  Students will participate in Red Ribbon Week beginning Monday, October 23rd when they Pledge to be Drug Free.  The month will end with HTE’s traditional character book parade.  The parade will start as close to 9:00 as possible.  You are welcome to attend and watch from the courtyard.
