Happy Holiday Season to you!  We have 3 weeks of teaching and learning with your child this month.  We will continue a challenging and fun learning environment!  Since it’s a short month in school, we need your help!  Please encourage your child to read daily over winter break.  Reading is a skill that requires practice.  You do not need to be familiar with the text your child is reading.  You can ask were there any words you were unfamiliar with, what was the text about, and/or what are some similarities and differences you can tell me about another text you’ve read.  You can also read aloud to your child.  There are many          “hawk-some” holiday stories!!  If you are in need of a book, please feel free to visit the HTE media center and check out a book with your child.  Have fun reading!!  Students also are encouraged to work on their individual instructional path on i-Ready and read on MyOn.

Our Reading challenge for students is “Fall into Winter with a Good Book.”  Students may be currently participating in the Fall portion (November 20th-December 17th), which is reading the tasks on the leaves and then coloring in the leaf.  In the winter portion (December 21st-January 7th), students will read the tasks on the snowflakes and then color it in when completed.  Completed sheets for the leaves are due Monday, December 18th and completed sheets for the snowflakes are due Monday, January 8th.  Students who participate in both portions will be rewarded.

The students of HTE have finally reached reading 3,000 MyOn books.  We spun the Wheel of Doom and it landed on Party Day.  Each classroom was able to determine a date prior to Thanksgiving when students could have a party from 3:00-3:45.  When they reach 6,000 we will spin the Wheel of Doom again.

All K-5 students will take their i-Ready Diagnostic #2 in Reading and Math in December.  When we return from winter break, students will be sent home their i-Ready scores from the diagnostic so you can see how they are progressing on that tool.

December is a jolly time of year!  Your active participation in our school community brings me joy!  We have numerous events and you always show your support…THANK YOU!
