A Message from Administration

Hawk families,

As we move closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, our hearts are full of gratitude for each and every one of you. This time of year naturally invites us to pause, reflect, and say “thank you,” and there is so much to be thankful for here at Hickory Tree.

We are grateful for our incredible teachers and staff who pour their time, energy, and love into our Hawks every single day. From planning engaging lessons and analyzing data, to tying shoes and offering hugs, they go above and beyond to ensure students feel safe, supported, and challenged. Their dedication is the heartbeat of our school.

We are thankful for our amazing students, who come to school ready to learn, grow, and soar. They are the reason we do what we do. Whether they are reading a new book, tackling a tricky math problem, being a kind friend, or working toward their PM2 goals, our Hawks make us proud each day with their effort and perseverance.

We are deeply appreciative of our PTA for continuously stepping up to support our students and staff. From organizing events, to providing treats, to helping with special celebrations, PTA is such an important part of our Hawk family and helps us make school a joyful place to be.

Most of all, we are grateful for YOU—our parents, guardians, and families. Thank you for trusting us with your children, partnering with us, supporting homework and practice at home, showing up for events, and communicating with teachers. Your involvement and encouragement make a powerful difference in your child’s success and help ensure that our campus has what it needs to help every Hawk soar.

As we head into this season of thanks, please know how much we appreciate our Hickory Tree community. Together, we truly are stronger, and together we will continue to help our Hawks shine.

With gratitude,
Ms. Miller and Ms. Vargas

Progress Learning & Thanksgiving Break Challenge 📝🦃
We are excited to share that Progress Learning continues to be a key tool we are using to help students practice important skills, strengthen areas of need, and prepare for PM2 testing. This program is available through your child’s ClassLink account and is aligned to the standards they are expected to master this year.

Progress Learning gives students:
  • Extra practice in reading, math, and other subjects
  • Targeted support on specific standards where they may need more help
  • Immediate feedback that helps them learn from mistakes and grow
  • A way to reinforce classroom learning at home in a meaningful way

Thanksgiving Break Progress Learning Challenge
We will be launching a Thanksgiving Break Progress Learning Challenge to keep our Hawks’ minds active even while they are enjoying time with family and friends.

  • We will send home more specific information and directions about the challenge soon.
  • There will be individual prizes, class prizes, and overall school prizes for students who participate and meet the challenge expectations.
  • The goal is to help students stay sharp & practice

APEX Challenges and Color Run

Our APEX challenges and upcoming Color Run are in full swing, and our students are having an amazing time participating in the daily lessons, challenges, and activities. The energy on campus has been incredible!

A few reminders for families:

  • The Color Run is this Friday during block classes.
  • Students must have a minimum donation of $30 to participate in the run.
  • Funds raised will go directly toward schoolwide and campus improvements, helping us create even better learning environments and experiences for all students.

We cannot thank you enough for your incredible support so far—whether you have shared the fundraiser with family and friends, donated, or simply encouraged your child to participate in the daily challenges, you are making a difference.

More details about the run (times, what to wear, and any special instructions) will be sent home and shared by teachers and the APEX team as we get closer to the event. Please keep an eye on your child’s folder and our communication platforms for updates.

Thank you again for helping make this a fun and successful event for our Hawks!

Hawk of the Month Ceremony – This Thursday
We are excited to celebrate our next group of Hawk of the Month students this Thursday at 8:45 a.m.

This special ceremony is for students who were nominated by their teachers and whose families received an invitation sent home last week. If your child was selected:

  • Please be sure you have completed the registration form listed on the invite.
  • Parents should arrive after morning arrival and park in the back of the school near the covered area.
  • Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the back gate by the covered area (similar to our Honor Roll and previous Hawk of the Month ceremonies).
  • Please have your ID ready to help us move through the check-in process smoothly.
  • After check-in, parents will wait in the covered area until the ceremony is ready to begin around 8:45 a.m., at which time families will be escorted to the cafeteria.
  • Students will receive their award and enjoy a breakfast treat, and families will have time to sit with them, talk, and celebrate together.
  • At the end of the ceremony (around 9:30–9:40 a.m.), parents will be escorted back to the covered area to exit campus, and students will return to class.

We would like to give a special thank you to our PTA for helping provide donuts and support for this celebration. Their partnership makes these special moments even sweeter for our students and families.

We are so proud of our Hawks who are being recognized for following our SOAR expectations and being leaders in their classrooms and around campus. We look forward to honoring even more students each month!
