Tomorrow is the big day! ❤️🖤 We are so excited to welcome our students back to Hickory Tree Elementary for the first day of the 2026–2027 school year!
Our team is ready and excited to see our Hawks! As we prepare for a safe, smooth, and successful first day, we need your help with a few important reminders.
🏁 DISMISSAL — PLEASE REVIEW TONIGHT!
The most important thing you can do is make sure your child AND your child’s teacher know exactly how your child is going home.
Please remember:
✅ Your child should go home the same way every day beginning on Day 1. Changes should only be made when necessary due to an appointment, early pickup, or emergency.
🚌 Bus Riders
* Practice your child’s bus number with them.
* Make sure the correct bus number is clearly written on the transportation tag attached to the backpack.
🚗 Car Riders
* Practice your child’s car tag number until they know it!
* Students knowing their numbers helps us quickly match them with their vehicles when numbers are called.
* Make sure the backpack is tagged CAR RIDER and the correct car tag number is clearly written on the tag.
🚐 Van/Private Transportation
* Make sure your child knows the name of the company/van they ride with.
* Check that the backpack is correctly tagged and labeled.
⭐ Extended Day/J’s Athletics
* Make sure your child knows which program they attend.
* Backpacks must be correctly tagged and labeled.
* These students will report to the cafeteria at dismissal.
🚶 Walkers — Hickory Hollow Residents Only
* Walker dismissal is only for families who live in the Hickory Hollow community.
* Make sure your child is correctly tagged as a walker.
* Staff will escort students across to the designated gate before and after school. Please be patient as we safely move students through this area.
🎒 ARRIVAL
Please make sure your child knows their teacher’s name and grade level. Our staff will be throughout campus and in the hallways helping students find their way!
🍎 Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Students will remain in the cafeteria upon arrival this week and will be brought to their classrooms with their teachers and classes. Kindergarten will continue this routine for the first month of school.
📚 Grades 2–5: Students may get breakfast upon arrival if needed and then go directly to their classrooms. Staff will be throughout the hallways assisting students.
Please check your child’s backpack tonight! Their ID tag should be securely attached and should correctly display their teacher and grade.
🚦 CAR LINE REMINDERS
Please have students ready to exit the vehicle as you move through the car line. Backpacks on, hugs given, and ready to go! 😊 Being prepared makes a huge difference in keeping traffic moving.
As you enter the line, continue moving all the way forward until traffic stops. Once the line parallel to our staff and gates has stopped, students may exit their vehicles. You do not need to wait for a staff member to open the car door.
K–1 Drop-Off: Follow the car line through the back of the school, and then continue straight toward the side of the school near the cafeteria, where staff will assist students in the designated K–1 drop-off area.
Grades 2–5 Drop-Off: Continue around the loop and drop students off at the back covered area.
❤️ A LITTLE DAY 1 PATIENCE GOES A LONG WAY!
During the first week or two, car lines and buses may take a little longer than usual. We have new students, new families, kindergarteners and younger Hawks learning brand-new routines, and students learning bus numbers, car tag numbers, classrooms, and dismissal procedures.
Please be patient with us—we promise, it gets better! 😊
Every extra minute we take during these first few days is about accuracy, safety, and making sure every Hawk gets exactly where they need to go. Once everyone learns the routines, you will see our arrival and dismissal processes move much more quickly.
