A Message from Administration

Dear Hickory Tree Families,

Can you believe we’ve already wrapped up the first quarter of the school year? Quarter 1 was filled with learning, laughter, and lots of hard work, and we couldn’t have done it without your partnership and support. Thank you for helping us make the first part of this school year one to remember!

As we step into Quarter 2, it’s time to buckle down and continue growing! Report cards will be sent home on Friday, October 24, and we encourage you to take time with your child to reflect on their progress so far. Ask them:

  • ✅ What am I proud of from Quarter 1?
  • 🎯 Where can I grow or improve?
  • 📈 What goal will I set for Quarter 2?

Whether your child is excelling or still building their skills, the most important thing is growth and effort. Sit down together and review their assessment data, then help them set a goal for the next round. A student who knows their strengths and areas for growth is a student ready to soar.

Here’s how you can support from home:

  • 📚 Reading together nightly makes a huge difference! Take turns reading aloud, ask questions, and talk about the story. These small moments build strong comprehension.

  • ➕ Math practice at home matters! Help your child master basic facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to support them in class.

  • 💻 Check the Parent Portal regularly for grades, assignments, and progress.

  • 🧑‍🏫 Reach out to your child’s teacher to ask how you can help—teamwork makes the dream work!

  • 🎓 Varsity Tutoring is FREE for all students! Whether your child needs a boost or just wants to stay sharp, this is a wonderful at-home resource available online.

Let’s keep attendance strong and our goals high. Every day matters, and we can’t wait to see how much our students grow in Quarter 2.

Enjoy the long weekend! Remember school is closed for students on Monday, and we’ll see you on Tuesday, October 15, ready to jump into a fresh start!

With gratitude,
Ms. Miller and Ms. Vargas

JOIN US FOR MULTICULTURAL NIGHT!

Multicultural Night – Wednesday, October 22
We are excited to invite all families to join us for our upcoming Multicultural Night on Wednesday, October 22, right here at The Tree from 4:30pm-6:00pm.

At Hickory Tree Elementary, we celebrate the beautiful diversity of our community. Multicultural Night is an opportunity for families to come together and explore the rich cultures, traditions, food, music, and art that make up our school family.
There will be:
  • 🎶 Student performances and cultural showcases
  • 🍽️ Food trucks available
  • 🎨 Student displays, community partners, and SDOC departments

Come and experience a night of learning, pride, and celebration. We encourage families to wear traditional attire, bring their curiosity, and celebrate what makes us special, our differences and our unity. We can’t wait to see you there!

📲 Check the Parent Portal – Stay In the Know!
The Parent Portal is one of the best ways to stay connected to your child’s learning. We encourage families to check the portal weekly (or even daily!) to monitor grades, attendance, and behavior notes.
Using the portal together with your child opens the door to meaningful conversations about responsibility, effort, and success. Try setting goals together:
  • “Let’s aim for all assignments turned in on time this week.”
  • “Let’s improve that quiz score with some extra practice.”
🎯 Students thrive when they take ownership of their learning. When parents stay informed and engaged, it sends a strong message: “Your education matters.”
💬 If you’re ever unsure or need help navigating the portal or understanding grades—reach out to your child’s teacher. A strong home-school connection helps every student grow.
Let’s make Quarter 2 the best one yet! 🍂
💻 Be informed.
🎯 Set goals.
📚 Keep learning.
🧡 Stay connected.

We’re so thankful for our amazing families. Together, we’re building something incredible at Hickory Tree!
