💛 Kindness Night Was Incredible!
We want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing school counselors, Ms. Bowen and Ms. George, in collaboration with our PTA for hosting a truly special Kindness Night this past week. The evening was filled with joy, collaboration, and meaningful family connections.
Families rotated through several engaging stations, including:
- ✨ Kindness Word Wall
- 💬 Empathy Station
- 🎨 Spread Kindness Rock Painting
- 📿 Gratitude Bracelet Craft
- 🧘 Calm Down Corner Station
The laughter, teamwork, and thoughtful conversations throughout the evening reminded us why Hickory Tree is such a special place. When families and schools work together to build character, the impact goes far beyond the classroom.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this beautiful event!
🚻 Bathroom Expectations & Student Responsibility
We need your partnership in addressing an important matter regarding restroom behavior.
Recently, we have experienced vandalism and misuse of our student bathrooms, including:
- Throwing wet paper towels on walls and ceilings
- Placing paper towel rolls into toilets or sinks
- Writing on walls or stalls
- Playing or engaging in unsafe behavior
We will be reviewing restroom expectations with students at school and increasing supervision and monitoring outside the bathroom hallways. However, we kindly ask that you also speak with your child about appropriate restroom use.
Students need to understand that vandalism is not harmless behavior. It damages our school environment, creates unsafe conditions, and can result in serious consequences, including financial responsibility for repairs.
Our goal is not punishment — it is responsibility. We want students to take pride in their school and understand that maintaining a clean, safe campus is part of being a Hawk.
Thank you for helping by reinforcing these expectations at home.
📚 Supporting Learning at Home
The school-home connection is one of the strongest predictors of student success.
We encourage families to:
- Review your child’s learning trackers and progress updates.
- Ask: What skill are you working on right now?
- Discuss strengths and areas for growth.
- Set small, achievable goals together.
Students should be logging into Progress Learning nightly to practice skills they need additional support with. Repeated practice over time — especially on previously learned skills — builds:
- Confidence
- Mastery
- Independence
- Higher levels of achievement
Teachers are also sending home resources aligned to classroom instruction. When students consistently use these tools, we see tremendous growth.
Ownership matters. When students understand their data, track their progress, and take responsibility for improvement, they thrive — not just this year, but in middle school, high school, and beyond.
